Nokia fleshes out network deployment skills with second acquisition

In an acquisition double whammy that took place at the end of last week, Nokia Networks revealed that it picked up a second company, Israel-based Nice Systems, also for an undisclosed sum. The geolocation specialist will give Nokia enhancements in the planning and optimisation of mobile networks, the company said.

NSN appoints head of Central, East and West Africa

Nokia Solutions and Networks has announced the appointment of Salvatore Maisano as its new head of Central East and West Africa. It is the second senior appointment in Africa for NSN in less than a month as the firm refreshes its regional roster under the leadership of MEA senior vice president Igor Leprince.

NSN signs carrier aggregation and CDN deals in Asia

It has delivered multi-band carrier aggregation technology to Taiwan Mobile and signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese content and application delivery solutions provider ChinaCache.

Infrastructure vendor Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has appointed Deon Geyser as head of the Southern African sub-region, who has rejoined the firm from international operator group Millicom Cellular International, which is parent to the Tigo brand in Africa and Latin America.

NSN to open security facility in Berlin

Nokia Solutions and Networks has revealed plans to open a Mobile Broadband Security Center in the German capital of Berlin. The firm said it wanted to drive awareness of and collaboration on network security between industry, public sector and end users. The new facility will begin operations in the second half of this year.

Telecom Italia has found it can double its network’s peak data rate, and vastly increase network capacity using High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) technology from infrastructure vendor NSN.

Apple CFO to retire; ex-NSN CFO to take the helm

iPhone maker Apple has announced that its senior vice president and CFO Peter Oppenheimer will retire at the end of September this year. He will be replaced by current vice president of finance and corporate controller Luca Maestri, who prior to joining Apple held the role of CFO at network infrastructure vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (now Nokia Solutions and Networks) as well as document management firm Xerox.

Tele2 Sweden deploys NSN customer experience management solution

European operator group Tele2’s Swedish subsidiary has called on Finnish infrastructure vendor Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) for a customer experience management solution to provide it with insight into network performance based on service quality, service usage and real-time traffic information.
