The Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) has released figures detailing the growth of LTE network deployment in 2014. According to the association, 360 global operators have commercially launched LTE networks and services in 124 countries.
Chilean operator Entel and infrastructure vendor Ericsson have completed what they said is the first Latin American live LTE network test over the APT700MHz spectrum. The trial involved the deployment of 10 test sites with equipment using the frequency band in Rancagua city in Chile.
The introduction of VoLTE is accelerating with 21% of operators currently investing in deployments, and according to the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) the figure is set to double next year. So far a total of 10, of which seven this year, commercial VoLTE-enabled HD voice services have been launched, and the GSA is expecting eight more by the end of 2014.
With 941 new LTE devices launched in the past year, the device sector has seen almost 100 per cent annual growth, with the number of manufacturers playing in the space increasing by 68 per cent over the same period, according to statistics released this week by the GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association).
